Let's get healthier and lose weight with our Physician Assisted Plan.

If you’re looking for a “Magic Pill” … Sorry, there isn’t one.

slimmer-you

Our Program is Divided into 3 Main Parts:

  • Awareness – Why are we fat? What happened to the food environment?
  • Guidance – Proven “lifestyle changes” with specific instructions what to and what not to do.
  • Appetite Suppression – Use of appetite suppressants (if necessary) as well as changes to your current medication(s).

Awareness

How have we gotten so fat and so sick?

Obesity is NOT an individual choice.

We have become products of our nation’s created environment.

The Starch Nation was Founded

The world as we knew it would never be the same. In the early 1970’s President Richard Nixon, with the best intentions, declared the “War on Hunger” expanding the US Farm Bill, subsidizing corn, soy, wheat, sugar and rice. There became an overproduction of cheap grains in general, and corn in particular with over 30% of our fertile land under crop.

Today with over 50 million people receiving food assistance the country needs fast, cheap resources of processed and modified foods in order to feed the masses.

The “Starch Nation” is here to stay.

Pharmaceutical & Medical Communities

Starting in the 1970’s, the medical and pharmaceutical industries aggressively worked together in convincing us that “fat is bad”, “fat is fattening” and “cholesterol is going to block your arteries”. That message followed with a flood of “cholesterol lowering medicines” that continues to generate billions and billions of dollars. (There are 24 million pills sold a day!)

Ironically, despite aggressive fat restrictions and blood pressure control medicines the incidents of heart problems is higher today than ever before. This rhetoric about fat being bad is not correct and was engineered to ultimately sell more and more pharmaceutical products

“Fat Phobia” is just wrong.

The Food Industry

The food industry could not wait to be “The Super Hero” in response to the fat villian that was created.  A new line of “low fat”,  “fat free” and “baked instead of fried” products were readily available. But food with removed fat doesn’t taste good nor does it have a long shelf life. So fats were replaced with sugars, starches and carbohydrates.

There are hundreds of thousands of processed foods available and 80% of them have excess of sugars.

If we attempt to read a label today we will get confused. It is very hard to know exactly what is in there. New labels and phrases are added as well as “new products” such as “low sodium”, “naturally flavored”, “no nitrates” and “unprocessed”. No GMO? OMG!

Since the “Starch Nation” began

Adults considered obese – 36%
Adults considered overweight – 69%
Adults with extreme obesity 6%
Adult females with extreme obesity – 8%

Guidance

Is this Atkins? Paelo?

No, it’s not.

It’s a guide to eat what our body is created to eat and what we are equipped to process in our bodies.

It is a Healthy Fat, Low Carb Lifestyle.

You will, with our help, discover how to keep the weight off long term as well as see improvement in your lipids and hormonal levels.

A low-carb lifestyle limits carbohydrates - such as those found in grains, starchy vegetables and fruit - and emphasizes foods that are high in protein and fat.

At Tumi Health you will understand why:

  • Your body essentially needs little or no carbs.
  • That carbs are addictive.
  • That once you start, you cannot stop eating them.
  • Our reward center in our brain praises these as “super fuel”.
  • The rule of minimal effort. Lots of energy at low cost.
  • Carbs will make your body produce insulin to remove the sugar out of your blood and the insulin will feed your fat.

Again, it is all about quality of food you eat and not the quantity.

The excessive exposure to carbs is widespread. They are readily available … at gas stations, convenience stores and mini-marts. Cheap, fast, highly processed, modified “foods” filled with preservatives and sugars.  It has made us not only FAT, but also sick with diseases such as diabetes. Insulin is the only thing that your body produces to take the sugars out of your blood.

35 million Americans have diabetes and it is at a growth rate of 1.5 to 1.9 million new diagnoses a year!

A new disease “Adolescent Type II Diabetes” is also on the rise with 280,000 under the age of 20 years old.

Your body makes very limited amounts of insulin. We were not designed to ingest large amounts of carbohydrates. Insulin has multiple functions that are rarely mentioned. It affects your thyroid, sexual hormones and lipids to mention a few. It seems like a very simple and correctable problem, but unfortunately it is not that easy.

Avoid Carbs Because

1. Your body doesn’t need them.

2. Carbs are highly addictive.

3. There is no inner mechanism to stop eating them once you start.

4. Carbs are “Super Fuel” – already processed.

5. Carbs make your body release insulin and insulin feeds your fat.  It is a vicious cycle.

The Key to Your Successful Weight Loss Starts Here

Eat Real Food

A common mistake that is made while learning about what to eat when having a new low carb lifestyle is buying into the marketing of low carb products. A simple rule of thumb is to simply eat real foods like these.

real food

Eating real food and specifically healthy fats will make your body restrain itself from overeating through normal functions. Your stomach recognizes when it is at capacity and knows to stop eating.

Listen to your body!

This is NOT A DIET! It is a LIFESTYLE CHANGE!

What if it says “Low Carb”?

There are several companies that market “low carb” food products. These products usually are full of starch, sugar alcohols, flour, sweeteners and strange additives. There are a couple of simple rules to follow to avoid these types of foods.

  • Don’t eat “low carb” versions of high carb stuff. Use your common sense. High carb foods like cookies, chocolate bars, chocolate, bread, pastas or ice cream probably are not the best choices for you – unless you are POSITIVE of all of the ingredients.
  • Avoid products with the words “net carbs” on them. That is yet another marketing ploy to fool you.

Keep your focus on eating real, minimally processed food. Ideally any foods that you buy should have a very short list of ingredients.

What are “Net Carbs”?

Avoid Sugars & Starches

Don’t Eat: Sugar, HFCS, wheat, seed oils, trans fats, “diet” and low-fat products and highly processed foods.

avoid sugars

Don’t Skip Meals

Eat at least 3 times a day. Do not go more than 6 hours without eating otherwise your body will go into ““power save mode”“.

Eat Only When You’re Hungry. Stop when you’re not.

When eating real food this is much easier.

Reduce all unnecessary snacking.

It’s very easy to sit in front of the TV at night time and snack. You’re not eating because you’re hungry, you’re eating because it tastes good and is easy. Be careful of this and make wise choices. A useful tip is to fill a bowl with your snack instead of bringing the entire bag.

Exercise

It only adds 10-15% extra for achieving weight loss

It’s always good to add new healthy habits, but be careful, Don’t Hurt Yourself. 40% of overweight people hurt themselves in the first 30 days of a lifestyle change. Three things happen with a new exercise regime

  • You feel tired.
  • You feel sore and get hurt.
  • You get hungry.

Any of these three factors can derail your journey to an improved self. If you are more than 50 lbs overweight, start slow and very low impact. Resistance exercise (weights) increase muscle mass, delaying arthritis and osteoporosis.

Adverse Health Conditions That You Have Been Living with Can Change with Weight Loss

How to Reverse your Type II Diabetes

You can normalize your blood sugar naturally  – without pills, calorie counting or hunger. Many people have already done so by changing their lifestyle … and their diets. Learn the foods that have the high sugar content. There is an education process on ways that you can eliminate the high sugar foods out of your diet completely.

Beat Sugar Addiction

Are you struggling with cravings for food or sweets? You are not alone. Many people are. All over the world, people are unaware of the fact that they’ve become addicted. Addicted to something that’s added in almost everything that we eat. And there is no way to avoid it completely; you need to eat, in order to live.

Medications

The pharmaceutical industry has been producing a myriad of pills for the treatment of chronic illnesses that are triggered by weight related symptoms. Ironically, there are very few scientifically proven medications for weight loss itself.

At Tumi Health, we start by reviewing your current medications.

If there are no risks of complications, we use the the most effective FDA approved medications such as Tenuate, B12 and more. (see medications and supplements)
